Detailed Itinerary | Eastern Bhutan Tour 2026

Day 1. Paro – Thimphu: Sightseeing

Arrival in Paro | Bhutan

  • Touch down in Paro! Representative from Bhutan Mystical Tours will receive you at the airport. Our guide will brief you on Bhutanese cultural where you will learn Bhutanese custom and phrases to help you dictate during your tour.

  • On the way to Thimphu stop to see Tamchog Monastery. He built 108 bridges across Tibet and Bhutan.

  • On reaching, visit Buddha Dordenma, a colossal statue that overlooks the city.

  • Explore the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in honor of the third king of Bhutan.

  • Later, head to Tashichho Dzong (Fortress), which houses the throne room of the king and the offices of the government.

  • In the evening, wander through the Thimphu town for local handicrafts and delicacies.

  • Visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Lamperi, located half hour drive towards Punakha.

  • On reaching Punakha, take a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang, which was built by Lama Drukpa Kuenley also known as “The Divine Madman”, in the year 1499. The Temple is also known as “the Temple of Fertility”.

  • Visit Punakha Dzong built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and is situated at the confluence of the Pho Chu (Male River) and the Mo Chu (Female River). Punakha served as a capital of Bhutan till the year of 1955.

For more information on this magnificent bird, you can also visit the Crane Information center, under the supervision of the Royal Society for the Protection of Nature.

  • En route, visit Trongsa Dzong (fortress), the most impressive Dzong in Bhutan. It is the ancestral home of the present Royal Family and the first two hereditary kings ruled Bhutan from this Dzong.

  • Just a minute from the fortress, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watch tower which currently serves as a museum.

  • Drive further to Bumthang.

  • Your day begins with a visit to Jakar Dzong, or “Castle of the White Bird”. Explore its serene courtyards, beautiful murals, and impressive architecture while soaking in breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys.

  • Few kilometers away is Jambay Lhakhang, which is believed to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. This temple is renowned for its sacred relics and hosts the famous Jambay Lhakhang Drup, a vibrant festival featuring traditional dances and rituals.

  • Spend time at the Kurjey Lhakhang (Monastery Complex), a sacred site that houses the body imprint of Guru Rinpoche, who is credited with bringing Buddhism to Bhutan. The complex includes three temples, with the oldest dating back to 1652.

  • On the other side of the monastery, visit Tamshing Lhakhang, a significant monastery founded by Pema Lingpa, one of Bhutan’s most revered saints. It is known for its ancient relics and beautiful wall paintings that depict various deities and scenes from Buddhist lore.

After the breakfast, visit to the Mongar Dzong built in the year 1930 and drive to Trashigang, the largest district in eastern Bhutan.

On reaching, visit the impressive Trashigang Dzong built in 1659 to defend against the Tibetan invasion.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town and you may come across “Brokpas”, the nomadic herdsmen of northeastern Himalayas with a unique dress.

Day 9. Trashigang – Trashi Yangtse: Sightseeing

Explore Trashi Yangtse

Take a short journey to Trashi Yangtse, known for its crafts.

Visit the Trashi Yangtse Dzong, Chorten Kora and Gom kora.

Later a visit to Buddhist Institute of Performing Arts and observe the intricate craftsmanship of Dzongkha textiles and wood carvings.

Return to Trashigang.

Day 10. Trashigang: Excursion to Sakteng

In the evening, drive back to Trashigang.

Return to Mongar

Drive back to Mongar. We occasionally stop on the way to take pictures as this route provides a memorable experience that captures the essence of eastern Bhutan.

Drive back to Bumthang.

Day 14. Bumthang – Paro: Sightseeing

Fly to Paro

Our guide will drop you at Bumthang domestic airport as per your flight schedule. While the second guide of this tour will receive you in Paro international airport.

In Paro, visit to Rimpung Dzong (Fortress), also called the “Heap of Jewels,” built in 1646. It serves as the center of administrative and religious authority in the Paro Valley.

Next, visit Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower built in 1656 and renovated in 1968, now housing the National Museum.

Day 15. Paro – Haa – Paro

Discover Haa Valley

Today you will drive to Haa Valley and immerse yourself in its rich cultural heritage.

The road ascends to the Chela La Pass, the highest motorable pass in Bhutan, where you can take in panoramic views.

Once you arrive in Haa, Visit Lhakhang karpo and Lhakhang Nagpo temples which are significant to the local culture. Explore the lush countryside and free to stroll over the town.

Return to Paro.

Day 16. Paro: Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery

Hike to Tiger’s Nest

  • Dedicate your final day to a delightful excursion to the Tiger’s Nest, also known as Taktsang Monastery. Reaching Takshang Monastery is as much an adventure as the destination itself. The trail to the monastery is approximately 6 kilometers round trip, with a steep ascent that can take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours, depending on one’s pace and physical condition.

  • On returning to the base, a Bhutanese cuisine experience (Highlight of eastern Bhutan tour 2026) in the woods is a celebration of both food and nature. It offers a unique way to engage with Bhutan’s rich culinary traditions while surrounded by the tranquility and beauty of the natural world.
